Customer Reviews

Auto-darkening helmets have become quite standard with most welders, especially as they have become quite affordable over the past few years. My review is from an automotive/fabrication perspective, but I know this helmet would be great for any type of welding.
I had been using a "cheap" lincoln auto-darkening hood while developing primarily my MIG welding skills, the helmet offered mediocre performance. The price was not much less than the hobart, but I quickly purchased it at Lowes/Home Depot.
During the past year, as I have become much more serious about welding and developing my TIG skills. I have been mentored along by a talented fabricator. During this period I have primarily used his Mountain auto-darkening hood. The Mountain offered much better auto-darkening performance, which of course allowed the user to focus on welding.
While searching for a new "professional" level helmet, similar to the Mountain I had been borrowing, I found the Hobart 770700 on Amazon for an amazing price. Both my more experienced peers/co-workers and myself have been impressed by the quality of the Hobart, the accuracy of the auto-darkening adjustability and the overall feel. I don't think I could be more happy given the price and performance. I don't like to emphasize the affect of a safety device on workmanship. However, in this situation the Hobart 770700 has offered ergonomics, auto-darkening performance and protection that has allowed me to focus on producing better welds. Given the less than $100 price of the Hobart it is a great necessity I would recommend to any welder.

I weld professionally and some hobby, thin gauge and up to 3/8 steel, occasionally aluminum and cast iron, totally 3-4 hours a week.
Tested the helmet with very low current mig welding and shade set to "9", perfect and fast darkening even with lowest current, welding poodle clear viewable, markings on material even so, with a stick electrode of 4,5 Mm, I tried the shade "13" setting, fast reaction but a little to dark, lowered to "12", and again clear sight of poodle and material markings. The grind function and the exchangeable power cell is nice extra functions for a helmet with this low price.
The head harness is easy adjustable and keep the adjustments also when moving the mask a lot up and down.
The helmet feels, once adjusted, very light and is easy to work with, was using reading glasses inside the helmet without any problems.
Bought from Amazon, fast shipping and OK packing
