Customer Reviews

I have only recently purchased this welding helmet, and have used it only an hour or two, but I have been very impressed with it. If anything happens to change my opinion, I will revise this review accordingly.
The auto-darkening function works. That is probably the most important feature of any auto-darkening helmet. When not darkened, the lens is comparable to dark sunglasses, so one can easily see the work and get the welding tip aligned. While I have no way of measuring how quick the response is, for all practical purposes it does darken instantly. The darkness is adjustable by a knob on the left side of the helmet, and there is a noticeable difference between darkness settings. When the arc stops, the lens instantly lightens, but to get a good look at the weld bead I find it necessary to raise the helmet.
The viewing window is larger than what if found on many other helmets, and gave a good view of the work area. There is a small solar panel just above the viewing window to keep the battery charged.
There is plenty of room inside the helmet for reading glasses if you need them to focus.
The helmet includes a setting for TIG welding. I have not used this and the instructions that came with the helmet do not explain it.
The helmet is light weight, so it is comfortable, but appears to be a reasonably sturdy construction. If I was doing a lot of welding I probably would have bought a Miller helmet or equivalent, but this helmet offers a great value for the occasional welder.
The headband adjustment is an excellent feature. You put the helmet on your head, then press in a knob on the back of the headband and twist it until you have a snug, comfortable fit. Once set, it locks securely.
There are two knobs on the sides to tighten or loosen the helmet on its swivels. I snugged up these knobs so the helmet stays up when I want it up, and when I pull it down it comes down as far as I want it without flopping against my chin.
I had considered the very popular Neiko black helmet sold for $1 less at Neiko Solar-Powered Auto Darkening MIG/TIG Welding Helmet, ANSI Approved but selected this one because the online photos seemed to indicate that this model might have given slightly better coverage and protection against UV burns. I am pleased with the shape and coverage of this helmet (plus the decals will be a bonus for many buyers).
The one negative comment is with the instructions and documentation provided with the helmet. The instructions are near useless. There is a suggestion that repair parts are available if anything goes wrong, but not the slightest clue where one would get parts. There is no website for the company, although a search did turn up a Wholesale Neiko Tools site.
In summary, I consider this helmet to be an excellent value. My 5 star rating reflects its low price. If price and value for the money were not considerations, I would probably give it 4 stars and reserve the 5 stars for helmets costing 3 times as much or more. I recommend this helmet for those who are not welding professionally.

Great helmet for the price (actually found it cheaper at other sites when I was doing a search for replacement lenses, but I love Amazon).
So now we need additional replacement lenses. Can anyone tell me how to find these?
Figured out that the model number was 53928A (which isn't shown above!). Cannot find a replacement lens. I would not have purchased this unit if I couldn't this part!
